Knots of Freedom
The Our Rescue Store proudly offers a selection of beautiful jewelry pieces that are designed and crafted through Eden's vocational training program. Each piece tells a unique story, and below is the story of Tho Tho.
Tho Tho, the eldest of seven siblings, lived in a small house with her family. When her mother fell ill with diabetes, mounting medical bills forced them to borrow money from a loan shark. Unable to keep up with payments, desperation set in.
A local agent preyed on their vulnerability, promising Tho Tho a high-paying factory job abroad. Hoping to save their family, her parents sent her off.
After a grueling 20-hour van ride, Tho Tho arrived at her destination, only to realize she’d been sold. An older couple inspected her, paid the driver, and locked her in a small room. That night, she was violently raped—shattering her world.
Over time, she was forced into servitude, cleaning, cooking, and enduring relentless abuse. But Tho Tho’s will to survive remained unbroken.
Quietly, over several months, she collected scraps of cloth to fashion a rope of knots. One night, while the family slept, she tied the rope to a balcony railing from her room and climbed to freedom. She ran through the night, reaching safety at a police station by dawn.
Despite her suffering, she stayed focused on the escape and not on the daily abuses. She didn’t just give up in hopelessness but kept her eye on the goal of freedom.
This Knots of Freedom collection is inspired by Tho Tho's incredible escape to freedom.
